A native Knoxvillian, I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee with a major in English education and a minor in psychology. After about a decade as a teacher, I received my master's degree from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
Except for one year as the assistant editor of McCall's Crochet magazine, I have been a teacher all of my adult life. I have lived and taught in Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, and Kentucky. I have taught middle school language arts, reading, and writing. I have also taught all levels of high school English. In addition, I have taught hearing impaired preschool and middle school students as well as in a teenage parent program and at an alternative school. I have enjoyed guiding students in several academic intervention classes, such as the Bridges program, Language! and a middle school reading program I designed. Seven years ago, I returned to the Knoxville area. After a year at Bearden High School, I transferred to Gibbs High School to be nearer to my home and family. I am happy to be in my sixth year as an Eagle and hope to spend the rest of my teaching career here. | |
